Some subcommittees may provide time for participants to interact with each other. Besides spoken language, participants can also use the chat function to interact.

In addition, sign language interpreters can be used to communicate through sign language when deaf and hearing people interact. If a hearing person wishes to converse with a deaf person, please ask a sign language interpreter for interpretation. Sign language interpreters are indispensable even for hearing people who cannot understand sign language.

 

★Chat function

The system used on the Internet differs depending on the subcommittee, but in some cases there is a chat function that allows participants to interact with each other. Please use it according to the instructions of the organizer of the subcommittee.

 

★Sign language expression

If you do not distinguish between "man" and "woman" in sign language, you can use the expression "person" (pointing your index finger up) or "opponent" (with the back of your hand pointing toward the other person and all fingers slightly bent inward). I will replace it.

★Requests when speaking at subcommittees

■Speak without rushing at an appropriate microphone volume.

If the speaker's voice is too low for the sign language interpreter to hear, sign language cannot be used. You don't have to speak very slowly, but if you speak too fast, the sign language interpreter may not be able to keep up.

 

■ Technical terms should be clear.

Technical terms and proper nouns are difficult to hear, so please speak as clearly as possible.

 

■ "Huh? Can you say that again?" "Wait a minute?"

If you speak quickly or in a low voice, a sign language interpreter or computer taker may check your remarks. Also, if the interpreter is not keeping up with the conversation, you may be asked to wait for a while. note that.

 

■Speak one by one.

For many people who can hear, they can distinguish between multiple speeches at once due to differences in voices and utterances coming from different directions. Raise your hand if you want to speak, and try not to speak at the same time as much as possible.

■Don't start talking immediately after you finish speaking.

There may be a time lag in sign language interpreting. Leave some space between conversations so that the interpreter doesn't have to omit as much content as possible.

 

■Make it clear who said what.

For example, raise your hand if you want to speak so that the deaf people know who is speaking. The interpreter usually first tells the person who said something, such as "The moderator says this" or "That person in white clothes says this", and then interprets the content of the statement, so let's help them. .
